Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe had the ability to captivate us all with her beauty. She is arguably a legend for her "sex appeal". But long before she got her big break in the film "Gentleman Prefer Blonde's" she was a young girl that just wanted to be loved. Living much of her life as an orphan she experienced numerous traumatic events. Even as a successful actress she struggled to overcome the "sex pot" image she was automatically labeled. She faced multiple divorces, miscarriages, and bouts of depression. Still she pressed on with her dreams.

About 10 years ago I realized there is more to Marilyn than her "sex appeal." I was captivated by her resilience. At 14 my whole world was changing. Her perseverance through all her trials and tribulations captivated me. I started collecting her pictures, movies, and dolls. I celebrated her as Norma Jeane Baker, a person, lost but not forgotten. In a way she helped me find a way to celebrate what was important in my life. She was more than an icon to me.
